Gifted Education Notice
Gifted students are those who perform at or who have demonstrated the potential to perform at high levels in academic or creative fields when compared to others their age, experience, or environment. These students require services not ordinarily provided by the regular
Teachers, counselors, administrators, parents or guardians, peers, self, a or any other individual with knowledge of the student's abilities may refer a student. Additionally, all second grade students will be observed as potential gifted referrals using a gifted behavior checklist.
For each student referred, information is gathered in the areas of Aptitude, Characteristics, and Performance. The information is entered on a matrix where points are assigned according to established criteria. The total number of
SERVICE DELIVERY OPTIONS
Gifted students may receive services through a variety of delivery options depending on the grade of the student and the resources available to the Perry County School System. Services provided at different campuses are comparable in quality and duration.
Grades K-2
· Consultative services from the gifted specialist provided in the regular classroom setting
Grades 3-6
· Traditional pullout services 3 hours per week
Grades 7-12
- Advanced core curriculum class provided by qualified regular educators.
- Counseling services for college and career preparation.
- Electives
Grades 10-12
